Performance Solutions Specialist – Technical Expert

Solve complex building compliance problems

Performance Solutions are central to ATLR’s business. We specialise in resolving complex building compliance issues through carefully researched, technically robust and practical outcomes.

We are seeking an expert who can analyse problems where the answer is not immediately apparent. Someone who can look beyond the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions, understand the purpose and risk underlying a requirement, establish an appropriate assessment methodology and develop a clear, evidence-based technical position.

The role requires exceptional analytical ability, professional judgement and technical writing skills. You must be able to work confidently with the NCC, Australian Standards, specialist evidence, technical research and international building codes. Just as importantly, you must recognise when a proposed design cannot be adequately supported and be prepared to say so.

Key responsibilities

• Develop Performance Solutions across a diverse range of buildings and NCC requirements.

• Analyse the intent, risks and required outcomes underlying relevant Performance Requirements.

• Determine whether proposed departures are capable of being supported and identify any necessary design changes.

• Establish appropriate assessment methods, acceptance criteria and supporting evidence.

• Prepare Performance-Based Design Briefs and detailed Performance Solution Reports.

• Undertake technical research using the NCC, Australian Standards, test reports, research papers and international building codes.

• Critically review architectural documentation, construction details, specialist reports and technical evidence.

• Coordinate supporting input from fire, façade, structural, hydraulic and other specialist consultants where required.

• Work directly with clients, architects, builders, developers and Principal Certifiers.

• Clearly communicate and defend complex technical conclusions.

• Contribute to ATLR’s technical knowledge, reporting systems and quality-assurance processes.

You will bring

• Demonstrated expertise in performance-based building compliance.

• A strong understanding of the NCC and its performance-based compliance framework.

• Exceptional research, analysis and technical writing skills.

• The ability to understand the purpose and risk underlying a requirement and develop a complex, evidence-based technical argument.

• The ability to interpret Australian Standards, test reports and specialist technical evidence.

• Intellectual curiosity and the confidence to question assumptions and established approaches.

• Sound professional judgement and the willingness to determine that a proposal is not supportable where the evidence does not justify it.

• The ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from initial assessment through to final reporting.

• Confidence working directly with clients, approval authorities and specialist consultants.

• Qualifications in building surveying, engineering, architecture, access, construction or another relevant built-environment discipline.

• Relevant registration, accreditation or professional membership will be highly regarded.

• Applied experience with building codes from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada or the United States would be advantageous.

Your professional background is less important than the quality of your thinking. You may currently work as a building surveyor, engineer, architect, access consultant, technical researcher or in another specialist discipline.

We are looking for someone who can analyse, research and resolve difficult compliance problems—not simply identify departures from the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions.

Energy Consultant – Lead & Build a New Sustainability Division (Section J, NABERS, Green Star, EPCs, BASIX)

We’re not looking for someone to simply deliver reports. We’re looking for a leader with the technical expertise, commercial drive, and entrepreneurial mindset to build ATLR Energy from the ground up. You’ll have the freedom to develop our service suite, establish client relationships, and position the business as a trusted authority in Section J compliance, NABERS, Green Star, EPCs, BASIX, and related services.

Key responsibilities:

1. Lead Section J compliance assessments for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

2. Deliver NABERS, Green Star, BASIX, and EPC reports and certification submissions.

3. Conduct energy audits, identify efficiency opportunities, and propose practical solutions.

4. Develop and implement ATLR Energy’s service and growth strategy.

5. Generate new business through networking, industry engagement, and leveraging ATLR’s established client base.

6. Monitor changes in NCC, NABERS, Green Star, BASIX, and related standards.

You will bring:

1. Proven experience in Section J compliance, energy modelling, and sustainability assessments.

2. Accreditation in NABERS, Green Star, and/or BASIX (or ability to obtain quickly).

3. Strong report writing, analysis, and client engagement skills.

4. Self-starter attitude with a track record of building or expanding service offerings.

5. Commercial awareness and confidence in a growth-oriented role.
